Skincare Tips

Great skin is not simply a matter of DNA — your daily habits, in fact, have a big impact on what you see in the mirror. But depending on which product reviews you read or doctors you consult, there is a number of opinions on everything from how to moisturize to how your daily skin care regimen should be. Ultimately, caring for your skin is simply personal. I couldn’t agree anymore with Kari M.

The three steps I really think you should take in consideration are:

I feel consistency is the thing in achieving any results. By just allowing these three steps to become your daily ritual that fortifies your skin and grounds your day, you will see greater results.

Washing your face is the most basic and essential step of any routine, says the New York City dermatologist Dr. Carlos Charles. “Our skin comes in contact with environmental pollutants, dirt and other factors each day that should be gently removed.”

The right formula cleanses your skin without stripping essential, healthy oils. Take it easy with exfoliating scrubs (use once a week). For everyday cleansing, here’s what to look for:

Skin Regiment: HYDRATE! HYDRATE! HYDRATE!

During the Day: Use

Cleanser

Toner

Moisturize

Sunscreen

During the Night: Use

Cleanser

Toner

Spot Treatment if needed

Serums

Thick Moisturizer

Key Rule: Never go to bed without washing your face! I understand one time is okay, but don’t make it become a habit. You will be setting yourself up for future problems you will have to deal with.

 Sharing my current favorite products:

Neutrogena® Hydro Boost Water Gel instantly quenches dry skin and keeps it looking smooth, supple and hydrated day after day. I’m in love with this product. This is really great especially during the winter weeks in NYC. Plus, it’s an oil-free moisturizer, so you can wear it alone or under makeup as a smooth, velvety primer.

This 26-hour Belif moisturizing cream keeps the skin soft and smooth with Comfrey Leaf, a powerful hydrating agent. The soft and pure white cream literally wraps the skin with comfort, supplying moisture without dryness and tightness for hours. This is another great moisturizer current faves for the harsh winter weather.

I have used many other kind of toners which had witch hazel, but this one currently beats most. I saw this recently when I was shopping in Whole Foods and I read reviews on it. I immediately tried it. Great product.

Why Thayers Witch Hazel? Thayers are the only Witch Hazel products made of non-distilled extract to maintain the highest levels of therapeutic tannins.

  • Cleanses: Witch Hazel’s strong antioxidant and astringent properties make it one of the most effective natural cleansers and acne treatments available. Witch Hazel reduces excess oil buildup and bacteria growth on the skin, heals infections, reduces redness and inflammation, and halts the development of blackheads and whiteheads.
  • Tones: Most facial cleansers leave skin stripped and dry due to their alkaline pH level (>7pH). While an alkaline pH level is effective in removing oil and buildup on the skin, toning is necessary to bring the skin back to its optimal pH level (5.5pH).
  • Moisturizes: It has the component of Aloe Vera which is widely-known as one of nature’s best non-greasy skin moisturizers. Aloe is also nutrient-rich, also containing Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E, giving it excellent skin-brightening and anti-aging qualities.

It’s a must try. I recommend it.

My all time cleanser I still love to use till this day is the Philosophy Cleanser.

The Philosophy daily facial skin cleanser is formulated to gently cleanse, tone and melt away all face and eye makeup in one simple step, while lightly hydrating the skin. Till this day, I still stand by them and love this cleanser. It feels so good when using after taking off makeup with makeup wipes.

If you have any recommendations, please do tell. I’m always up for new goodies.
